International Albinism Awareness Day

“The 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda pledges to leave no one behind. That includes people with albinism. The cycle of attacks, discrimination, and poverty must be broken”

For those of you who don’t know, today is International Albinism Awareness Day. The United Nations Human Rights Council adopted a resolution urging for the prevention of attacks and discrimination against persons with albinism. On 26 March 2015, the Council created the mandate of Independent Expert on the enjoyment of human rights by persons with albinism.

This weekend I went to Austin with a friend for a wild mums night out, well not quite, but I did have the pleasure of meeting a friend of hers. After discussing many topics our conversation turned to our children, of course. She learned that my son had albinism and I learned she had a friend with albinism. We talked about her friend for a bit and what her life was like and I was reminded that a person with albinism can achieve many things, fulfill many dreams and lead a perfectly happy existence. Below is a link that shows just a few of those people.
