Hello, 2019 I’m thankful for this new year, full of new adventures and a new set of challenges. It’s been six months since I came on here to write anything, the last six months have been focused on family and work. I feel like I haven’t had the bandwidth for anything else, fitting in a daily shower seemed like a great amount of work. To all those women rocking the work life, bringing in the bacon and still raising children I salute you. I also raise a glass to my stay-at-home mums been there and that work is not easy and never-ending.
During some downtime on this winter break, I recently found myself on a website about being politically correct where disabilities were concerned. I learned a few new things. If you have ever seen that video that went viral of the boy giving a speech at his high school graduation he described himself as having learning differences, he had autism and a social communication disorder. I had never heard of the term learning differences, I like it. It can be a minefield when talking about people who are different due to physical differences or intellectual differences. I have been telling people for almost four years that Nash has a visual impairment only to read that visual impairment is not a great way to describe it and that low vision is, who knew? Dictionary.com states the meaning of impairment is “the state of being diminished, weakened, or damaged, especially mentally or physically: cognitive impairment in older adults.” Nash’s vision was neither weakened, diminished or damaged it just is what it is because he was born that way.
As a mother of a child with albinism, I am still learning. I have this quote stuck to my fridge that I look at every day. It reminds me that no matter how my day went whatever happened that there is always tomorrow. A new day, a new chance to learn and to make amends and to put your best foot forward.
“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”
~Emerson
We love you guys bunches. Nash is perfect. What a blessing he is and will continue to be.
He is a bundle of joy and intelligent little guy, just wish I was closer to see him grow. Ps what impairment? We are all born with different ability and in perfections. Its all about nurturing and guiding them to be the best they can be. He is doing great! keep up the good work, he is very lucky to have you for a mummy and he adores you. I am very proud of you
